Czech lager with honey = what can go wrong? AmmIrite?
Served cool from 500ml bottle into pilsner mug.
A) Medium to darkish amber, clear, thin white bubbly head, lots of bubbles rising. Colour in itself is very appetising.
S) Muted, but spritzy hops are in there, hint of manufactured honey.
T) Bitterness of the pilsner hops is balanced well by slight hint of honey sweetness, but the hops win. A bit weird, after being concerned that the honey would make the beer taste too much like honey, and not like beer, its more like, use more honey to give a substantially different take on your standard pilsner. The underuse of honey just mutes the tasty standard pilsner and misses out on giving a distinctive beer.
M) Light and refreshing, a bit of a metallic aftertaste.
O) A bit pointless, if you are going to put honey in a beer, put enough in to distinguish it from others of the style. Other than that, it is a perfectly drinkable lager.
