From an earlier forum post from an employee at Stoney Creek, I was guessing this would be around 12%. The chalkboard said 8.5%, so that's what I'm going with -- and it's been aged in bourbon barrels. Stylistically, it's apparently a strong "winter" ale of sorts.
And it's a damn good one.
Served in a snifter. Intense fruit and malt aromas and flavors dominate. Raspberries and some sort of cherry/brandy reduction that one might serve on beef. Dark in color with very little head. Spicy. Bits of cinnamon and other holiday spice. Looks, smells, and tastes elegant. The alcohol is hardly hidden, but it's not abrasive either. Moreso, it's integrated nicely into the flavor profile, making this a very sweet, estery, malty, sugary sort of brew.
Far and away Stoney's most adventurous offering thus far. They should do more of this, because if this be any indication, they're damn good at it.
