I had this beast at the brewery off tap. Very nice little rye beer, with a bite, ofcourse. I did like the rye taste incorporated into it. I am a big fan of rye bread, so I guess it's natural. The appearance was a pale straw color with a foamy white head. The head had good retention and lasted a little bit. Overall a good beer, even though I'mo not into the whole "hoppiesque" thing, it still won me over.

The beer arrived at the table crystal clear amber golden (expected a rye beer to be at least a little cloudy). The head was low, but persistend and laced the glass from top to bottom.
The aroma is citrusy hops but is certainly not overpowering. There is also present a slight caramel aroma.
The flavor at first sip is very similar to Sierra Nevada, but the mouthfeel has the rye "slickness" to it that leads one to the conclusion this is a much more complex beer. There is also a slight caramel flavor present.
The finish is dry and slightly bitter. The body is medium.
A very nice beer!
Pint glass sampled at The Cellar in Blacksburg.

NICE!
second off, i get to review this first time on ba. i love this beer and it's brewery! first off, the head on this guy is very nice, white, pocked, lacy as hell and sticks around for joy. the body is orange. the scents are of alot of hops, oranges, rye and earthy malt. it has a very dry start and sweetens up just a bit in the middle when the malts take over. then this great rye comes out of the body which just knocks you flat while it dries on the palate. the mouthfeel is creamy and bubbly. overall the mf is exciting. the drinkabiliy has been tested by yours truly night after whoopie night. gimme a ride home (in a wheelbarrow), i live a block away! i reviewed this at the cellar but i seems to taste better at the london underground where it is served a bit warmer and the malts and rye really come out, i'd also like to note that at the underground you can get a shot of rye along with it.
