Smoked Porter. Dark garnet color and medium bodied with beechwood smoked malts. The sweeter beechwood smoke complements the rich, dark malt character of the brew for hints of smoked dark chocolate.
Malts: Pale, Chocolate, Brown Crystal, Beechwood Smoked Malt
Hops: East Kent Goldings, Nugget

A half-pint in a stem glass at the brewpub in Fairfax, VA
Opaque brown-black, moderate head
Just the right amount of smoke flavor to complement a roasted malts.
Perfect for a February afternoon, although it was about 60 degrees.

On tap at brewery:
Pours very dark, but still a rusty to ruby brown when viewed in decent light. The dark body shows it’s not a nitro pour, though the creamy, sustained head resembles one.
Heavy nose of roasted grain, a little mineral water, and a hint of burnt wood. The initial sips while cold showed more of a robust porter, near stout flavor. There was a hint of acrid char, but not much. As the beer warmed, the smoke smoothed out and melded into the beer. The mineral note sits in back.
A medium body with just above average carbonation, it could be a little smoother overall. The smoke is pretty light and I wish it came out a little more. Even absent this upgrade, it’s still a pretty decent robust porter with a bitter and somewhat dry ending.

This is the best beer I've ever had. Absolutely nailed it.
