Murky orange-tan color. Poured a very short head that took a minute to drop down to a patchy skiff. Far too cloudy to see carbonation level. No lacing.
Rich tropical (not citrus) fruit scent with an edge of mint. Smells both sweet and sour. Swirling the glass kicked up a mature (oxidized?) barnyard smell and a lot more fruit. A little bit of malt and yeast edge through at the back end.
Quite tart, with a lot of fruit flavor. This is more like a strong radler made with exotic fruit juice instead of lemon. Some malt fills in to prove that this is still an ale at heart. A bit of sweet takes over from the tart towards the end. The aftertaste turns to a strong bread and yeast flavor. After a while the fruit, tartness, and a light bitter come back.
Quickly builds to a fine bubbled foam, but never feels creamy. Medium-heavy body. The acid in the fruit started my mouth watering. This turns slightly astringent with the aftertaste, and then the mouth watering kicked into high gear. Very odd feeling at the end. Both refreshing and exhausting.
Strongly recommended to give to that friend who doesn't like beer. Similar to their Kiwami Plum Sour, but I like the flavor of the guava more than the plum. Be aware that some large sediment lumps will make it into the glass even with the most careful pour. Better stir it before handing it to that beer hating friend.
I just had a sip of the Kiwami to compare. The Kiwami has a lot of black tea flavors compared to the bright fruit in the Sakari.
