Originally brewed in England to withstand the journey to Imperial Russia. This rich ale boasts caramel and roasted malts with spiced hops. A decadent profile begins with chocolate and coffee before elevating to rum soaked raisins, vanilla and french oak.

Opaque dark brown color. Poured a short head that dropped down to a ring around the glass in about half a minute. Too dark to see the carbonation level. Left fat strings of lacing.

Mostly dark roasted malt. Some coffee and a little dried fruit. Light condensed milk scent. Some yeast shows up after it has sat for a while in the glass. Swirling the glass kicks up a nice light barnyard for a couple of seconds that fades into a stronger dark malt.

Rich dark malt with a moderate bitter coffee and maybe some chocolate blended in. Light touch of dried sweet fruit; could be raisins or something else with a mild flavor. There is a range of flavors that could be in some dark rum, or they could just be from the malting process; peaks with some light caramel. Light wood near the end; could be oak barrels. The aftertaste is medium bitter with a strong wash of coffee. This turns to a stronger sweet, dried fruit and more of the dark rum-adjacent caramel flavors. Fades out with light bitter and maybe a hind of something like vanilla.

Tongue tingling only for a second as it grows to a creamy foam. The cream feeling only lasts for a few seconds as it turns to coarser bubbles. Heavy body.

I tried this on a hot summer day that was better suited to something much lighter. It didn't really matter as this is a flavor delight. However I did chill it colder than I normally would, around 13 degrees C / 55 degrees F. F&W continues to impress me with their sparing use of fruit. In this case the fruit is gently adding to the flavor instead of taking the front stage. I would like to try this in a radler, but it will have to wait until I get another couple of bottles.

Fuggles & Warlock 'Dragoon Imperial Stout' @ 8.5% , served from a black waxed 650 ml bottle
A-pour is a dark cola from the bottle to a near black in the glass with a small tan head , leaving a streaky lace along the tulip
S-hints of booze , rum
T-kinda big , really big tasting RIS , roasted malts
MF-mild carbonation , big full body
Ov-don't deny the Dragoon , sip & enjoy , possible cellar worthy
