On tap at the LA Beer Week Kickoff Festival held at Exposition Park in Los Angeles, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, toasted oat, dark fruit, and jam aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, toasted oat, and slight fruit flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice mix of cocoa, oat, and fruit qualities all around.
