Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a two finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate, very light vanilla and coffee. Flavor starts with dark toasted malt with a hint of charr and cocoa, then the chocolate and coffee flavors develop into a coffee bitter finish with hints of cocoa and vanilla. Light to medium bodied with sharp carbonation. A good, straightforward American porter with a touch of char and pleasant cocoa and coffee notes. Good flavor progression with a finish I like in porters where the hopping tastes somewhat like a nice bitter cup of coffee. Nothing out of the ordinary, but a flavorful, well made porter. Looks great. This may be the same porter that used to be named Royal Porter, but this was one is named after their new location; not sure if it has a recipe change.
