330ml bottle poured into tulip 18/5/12

A clear golden liquid with lots of tiny bubbles feeding a two finger foam that has some retention and leaves a couple partial rings of lace

S smells of sweet corn with a mild floral aspect, faint nail polish remover and booze but it smells better then it sounds

T cooked veggies to go with what I could smell, the booze is fairly well concealed but a pretty basic beer

M a little slick and enough bubbles to give it some life, fairly sweet and slightly sticky on the lips, just faint heat but well hidden booze going down

O easy enough to drink but one was enough

I'm hoping there might be some gems hiding in my "Best Of Bock Box" but for some reason my hopes are low

330ml bottle, another part of a 'Best of Bock' sample pack to show up on the Alberta market. Best before June 2012, so, pitter, patter, I guess.

This beer pours a clear, medium bright golden amber colour, with one finger of foamy and creamy ecru head, which leaves some streaky bike-chain lace around the glass as it duly recedes.

It smells of sweet tempered cereal grain malt, some sugary orchard fruitiness, a mild simmering solvent character, and muddled earthy hops. The taste is more haltered boozy, saccharine breakfast cereal grain, barley and Corn Pops alike, some mixed pitted fruit sweetness, and a dose of cowering leafy hops.

The carbonation is fairly low-key, the body a weak middleweight, and somewhat deftly avoiding the cloyingness of its ilk. It finishes mostly sweet, but in a restrained manner, the grain and alcohol in a devil's pact to pacify the drinker's palate, it would seem.

The most quaffable of this "welcome to springtime in Austria" shovel to the head presented to we Albertans, at least given the first 3 I've tried. Booze, being the only reason for this style's acclaim, is kept in check, for the flavour and the strength, but just barely, so I'm content for now, but hopeful of more from its brothers in arms.
