Bought a six pack at the brewery after tasting it straight from the conditioning tank. I was told by the brewmaster and it says on the label that after fermenting with ale yeast, the beer is conditioned with lager yeast. I poured it into my Orval pokal after letting it sit outside the fridge for about 20 minutes.
Managed to pour without raising the sediment and the result was a brilliant orange coulored body with coarse bubbles and a white head that dissipates fast leaving just a thin layer and no lacing.
Aroma is a moderate belgium yeast character with fruity esters reminscent of slightly overripe pineapple, straightforward sweetness and some phenols
Taste is also fruity and candy sweet with a typical astringent Triple like bite and dryness towards the end.
Body is medium and missess out on the evervescence of a Tripel or Duvel type beer it is clearly modelled after. Unfortunately this significantly reduces drinkability and makes it feel boozy.
Overall a missed effort to recreate a strong Belgian style strong ale, mainly due to its lack of this fine bubbled carbonation of this type of beers and too much sweetness. Keep on trying!
