DATE: May 13, 2016... OCCASION: a gift of Shan's from the new brewery... GLASSWARE: Victory HopDevil nonick... APPEARANCE: muddy reddish brown body that lets little light through... a creamy off-white head laces like coral above the crest; the lacing is cloudlike and attractive... AROMA: a light, toasted toffee strikes first; light hops suggest fragrant flowers; popcorn, slight fennel, and some nuttiness.... PALATE: due to the malts, rather flat and blunt; slightly arousing the teeth, but flourishes late in the throat... medium-bodied overall... drinkable, as advertised... TASTE: the toffee and caramel create a malty brace that serves as the beer's endearing quality; the hops are slightly pungent, with dank and flowery flavors presiding...engaging enough to make for a lightly complex brew.... OVERALL: as the first experience with Jersey Girl, an enjoyable introduction... a beer that is versatile in its time and place, with a mellow profile and a reasonable aftertaste... more hops could make this an even stronger beer, but prosit, Hackettsown!
