The big brother of Rake Breaker, this hazy, oated NE-style Double IPA is a silky citrus bomb. Hopped with loads of Citra and complimented with a soft piney touch of Centennial. A candy coated, sweet citrus nose, paired with citrus, orange, and tropical flavors together with a warming finish create a highly drinkable 7.8% beer!

A: quite hazy. Dark burnt orange color with a dark copper note in there as well. Really nice 2 finger solid tan head. Looks like you could rest a coin on there

S: tangerines, orange juice, pineapple. Mango, dry crackers. Some bready malt. Passion fruit and a little grapefruit. Quite a nice aroma

T: orange juice and tangy pineapple. Mango, and creamy creamsicle ice cream. A little bit of sweet grapefruit. More ripe mango and guava. Perhaps a touch of diactyl at the end

M: creamy, fluffy medium mouthfeel with low-medium carb

O: pretty enjoyable. The appearance could use a bit of work. It’s a bit dark and dull. Head is nice though. Flavor is good, there’s a bit more going on than just Citra…some ripe tropical fruits too. It tastes good though

I can't remember when I got this beer, just like I can't remember the last time a Jersey Girl turned me down in favor of some boneheaded Italian - but yes, this has a date on the bottom of the can. It read 4/5/17 with "1ST ANNIVERSARY CANNED ON" written above it. So what? This is old, just like me, and unlike most of the other older beers in my stash that I've cracked open lately, this just didn't cut it for me...

The pour was alright - apricot, muddled, and topped with plenty of foam that looked like laundry suds. Plenty of it stayed behind as I worked my way through this as the lacing was quite thick and voluminous. Tons of pine, funky dankness, feet, and astringency in the nose as the taste was just as convoluted and offsetting. Too much overripe tropical fruit drowned out the citrus as only a mild slickness served as a reminder of the latter's role in this brew. Basic malt and a swampy dankness were present but certainly not complementary to each other as this was easy to down but hard to appreciate...

Plenty of booze here but this still came across as an amateurish American Pale Ale to me. Like many Jersey Girls, the outward appearance was much better than what would be found inside but thankfully, I can find a fresher can of this and hopefully give it another go-around in the near future. In the meantime, I'd rather wear Cavariccis and long for the days of old...

DATE: August 17, 2018... OCCASION: a lot of work was done this week, and Friday deserves a bright hint of sun, even as it storms outside...
GLASSWARE: Victory nonick... with its Northeast leanings, not surprising its body is an opaque, hazy golden yellow glow clumping a pile of foamy, bubbly froth of whit head on its top... BIG orange, with tropical mango and other fruity suggestions... a hint of pine, though Citra is such a close relative to Centennial, it maybe a redundancy... light baked malts do not alter its hop-forward profile... a medium-bodied sip (probably beefier at 7% than the 5.5% listed above) that encourages the next, soft at the throat and almost as apologetic at the teeth... a certain creaminess attends to its consumption... the hops give an almost unadulterated citric kick, orange, mango and melon teeming drinkably and without being ostentatious... finishes dryly, an odd sentiment for an IPA, while its aftertaste is an average experience... happy to have had this one after passing many Jersey Girl offerings, this was fresh, refreshing, reasonably flavorful and only slightly bitter... between the label and the profile, this could be a summer beer, though its ABV approaches the threshold for a summer sipper... not enough flavor overall and a hit too thin to command a higher rating, but I would enjoy this at the brewery itself...

Drinkable but does not at all taste like a New England IPA to me.
