DATE: February 23, 2019... OCCASION: sequestered in the den while Will celebrates his upcoming twelfth birthday with sleepover friends... GLASSWARE: Celebrator Doppelbock pokal... pours a dark chestnut brown body with a slow upward drip of a single bubble... its frothy off-white head came and went quickly, though its pencil-thin outline becomes a bright white... rich toffee, thick baked bread, sweet chocolate, and some light floral hints--in all, its aroma suggests substance... the first sip is lagerish, and it possessed something of a fresh effervescence... conversely, it seems blanketed by its ABV and its flavor, content to sit at the throat in a weighty, beefed-up body that remains after it's consumed... the dominant flavors are toffee, caramel, and toasted bread dough... secondary hints of flower petal, leather, and chocolate make this a well-rounded, rewardingly sippable bock, well suited for these February nights days that play with temperatures and weather like yo-yo's... this also holds its alcohol well, making for a deceptively smooth evening...
