DATE: January 29, 2023... OCCASION: another NFL conference championship Sunday sans the Browns--but at least there is beer! GLASSWARE: 16oz. nonick... pours a dark chestnut brown body born murky with swirling sediment... something like a dark iced tea, it supports two fingers of frothy off-white-to-light beige head that settles to a thick smear that stretches its lacing... a big malty presence, rich with dough, faint toffee and chocolate, and spicy rye bread... also, some clove, syrup, berries and hard fruits--a nice array of aromas, varied but not muddled... its body is balanced, medium-bodied, toothless at the start, smooth and creamy at the tongue and throat, with a pleasing, shortened finish... quite drinkable, suitable for a holiday get-together.... its taste adds the orange, apple, caramel, rye spice, some bitters, and ginger to the clove and dough... this is a pleasing beer--flavors mingle and mix but nothing dominates, while its weight occupies a nice middle ground that encourages having a few...
