DATE: March 11, 2023... OCCASION: having just serenaded Jer on his 48th birthday, we continue with The Outer Banks and a beer preparing the palate for next week's St. Patrick's Day... GLASSWARE: nonick... pours the ruby red that the label proclaimed, with enough effervescence to craft an off-white, half-fingered head that swirls to a smear... light toffee, butterscotch, sweet cracker malts and some herbal hints that ease this into the nose--not bold, but at 4.5%, perhaps a chill, softened example of the style... its smooth approach quickens each sip, a thin, dry rush and a rounded, buttery finish... as all-day drinkers ago, this works; on its own, as a study, it sits weaker than others in its genre... toffee, candied sugar, cherry, sweet malts, a bit of pepper, and the slightest caramel... its finish is also on the light side, but it holds enough to be enjoyed...
