a very unique cask offering in here at green room, looks like a one off batch, but something real interesting. pours headless volcanic black, slick, and thick, shiny without any life to it. aroma is cool, lots and lots of specialty dark malt in here, bitter and earthy, roasted and even burnt or ashy, without much sweetness to balance it out. i like it being so intense like this, it makes sense for the cinnamon, which is warming and distinct in the nose, but scaled back pretty good in the taste. the flavor is there, but the base stout is substantial, and the cinnamon seems like it hasnt been steeped long enough for full flavor extraction, and it adds an almost tea-like spiced bitterness, almost all in the finish. there is a lot of dark grain here, cocoa notes, even licorice. it needs some bubbles, badly, the body is too big without it, and the beer is still like water, i really miss that aspect. a little bitter acidity to finish, not sure where that comes from, and it feels heavy overall. i like the idea better than the execution here, but the needed improvements seem easy enough to me, this should get better in future batches...
