Had this back in the spring, in May actually, and was very pleasantly surprised. Very well balanced, not overly sweet, dark red in color, and not much taste of alcohol despite the higher ABV. Something to look forward to in spring.

From the flip top bottle, it pours a clear slightly reddish brown color with a nice long lasting, though small, beige head. Scent is a pleasant sweetish malt. Taste is definitely on the sweeter side, with notes of light caramel and roasted malts. Very smooth and easy to drink.

Smoothest of the maibocks I’ve tried this year.Medium amber color with oil slick beige head.Malty aroma and taste with a little hops kick. Forgive the cheesy label, this one’s worth seeking out...

Half litre bottle, poured a large foamy head, dark amber colour, clear. Malty, grassy, hoppy aroma. Tasted malt, dark chocolate and caramel. Was on the sweet side, boozy finish. Lively carbonation, thick texture, smooth. Typical commercial Maibock, well made, dosen't stand out from the crowd in a good or bad way.

50cl bottle poured into standard UK pint sleeve.

BBE 16 Feb 2012

A- Copper body with excellent clarity. 2 finger off white head sits atop, reducing quickly to a thin crown, lacing is good to average.

S- Bready malts initially followed by sweeter toffee/chocolatey malts, hint of munich and toastier malts, little wholemeal bread.

T- Toffee sweeter malts up front, with toastier malts giving a good balance with a little wholemeal bread quality coming through.

M- Medium carbonation and medium to full body. Finish is perhaps a little sticky, not quite lager clean.

D- Overall the nose and palate are excellent, as said, perhaps a little clumsy on the mouthfeel but overall a very tasty maibock!

Pours clear dark amber/copper with large white head that slowly subsides, leaving intricate lace that sticks to the sides of the glass. Aroma is sweetish caramel, bready with light hints of alcohol.

Taste is similar to aroma, rich and fulfulling bready malt, semi dry finish with notes of both sweetness and sharp bitterness. Mild warming sensation and notes of alcohol can be felt towards the end of the glass.

Overall, an excellent Maibock for a hot spring day in the countryside while sitting in a blooming orchard. This time the surroundings and the beer have made an aboslutely perfect match.

.5L, best before 2/16/12.

Pours a lovely clear copper hue, with a dense two-finger head. Retains nicely at a thick layer, laces well.

The aroma has some toffeish malt notes, along with the typical lager character and some German hops.

The flavor is very bready and rich. Not too sweet and well-balanced by the hops. Really clean and smooth. The malt flavor could use a bit more depth, though there's a nice toasted grain note. The finish is pretty dry and bitter. Warming, but the alcohol is not as noticeable as most in the style. Mouthfeel is very smooth and lightly creamy, with fine, medium carbonation.

A fine Maibock. Probably the second-best beer I've had from the Mönchshof lineup (the Schwarzbier is Nummer eins).
