In the 18th century spruce beer became a part of daily life for the British Navy’s sailors. We hand pick tips from native Sitka Spruce trees for this beer to keep you hale and hearty. This crisp refreshing beer is perfect to enjoy on land or while exploring the Pacific Ocean.

Valemount 20/7 2018. 65 cl bottle from BC Liquor in Valemount. A Skipper smoking pipe on the label. Reminds me of Haddock from the Tintin Cartoon but he is supposed to be Captain James Cook who apparently was a Pioneer in Spruce Brewing.
Pours slightly hazy orange with a medium-sized head. Settles as a thin almost transparent layer of foam crawling up the side of the glass. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is sweet with strong odor of something alike to fresh bubblegum. Candylike sweet, biscuit, caramel. There might be some spruce hidden in the sweetness but It has a pretty light touch.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, flat texture.
Flavor has a rather strong sweetness followed by moderate bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a harsh bitter undercurrent.
Interesting idea - but I am not sure I will prefer Spruce as a replacement for Hops in my further consumption of beer.
