My first of this style. Pours a hazy orange. Nose is nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, allspice. Taste is similar but lighter. Finish is relatively dry, bready. Medium carb. Feel is prickly and crisp. Overall, pretty good. I enjoyed it.

Pours a clear orange with a very fast fading white head. Nose is all gruit - very true to style. Tons of spice and esters. Cooked bananas with orange; a rich carnuba wax smell that is sweet, fruity and appealing. Mouthfeel is delicate and lightly spicy with light carbonation. Again, this feels very true to style and a nice example of this ancient style. Flavors are all spice. This is not my favorite flavor profile. However, this is a true and well made example of a Scottish Gruit and for that it gets high marks.

Ale brewed with sage, wormwood, mugwort, lemongrass, and turmeric.

Pours a murky dark orange with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace drip into the remaining beer on the drink down. Smell is of grain, earth, spice, herb, and lemongrass aromas. Taste is much the same with earth, spice, herb, and lemongrass flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of earth and spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with interesting aromas and flavors from the ingredients used.

Serving type: bottle.
