Black IPA brewed with Hatch chiles.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, chocolate syrup, and earth aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, char, earth, citrus zest, and subdued roasted chile flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a low level of carbonation with an almost flat mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid aromas and flavors for the style, but I am only getting chile qualities in the taste and even then they are quite subdued.
Serving type: bottle.
