Growler fill from the River Room at the Boise Whole Foods.... Pours a murky light amber... Seriously looks muddy... Short lived light khaki head... no lacing.
Nose has a surprising amount of oak and vinous wine character... Not really heavy oaky vanilla, instead more subtle and spicy.. Wine character is Syrah (says my wife :-), no idea if she is right.
Caramel and toasty malt are more than present on the palate.. but are pummeled pretty readily by the barrel... I get the barleywine essence, but the barrel completely transforms this into a new beer... hints of apricot fruitiness.. Oaky and mildly tannic on the finish with warmth.
IMO, a light body for the style... but still very respectable.
Really happy I got a chance to try this one.
