this is most excellent, and the red wine barrel fills in some of the holes i found in the base beer back when it came out, and i think its a killer choice for this belgian strong golden. theyve done it well too, a little deep ruby color to it, some density, and well over an inch of bubbly off white head with outstanding retention and capacity for reinvigoration. it smells outstanding, even a little funky, maybe with some brett in here intentionally or not, or aybe its just the belgian yeast with the wood, but its mouthwatering and lovely. the wine barrel is immediately obvious, tannic red grape and oak. the belgian yeast sames more tame now than it used to, something different happening here than i remember in the base beer, less of the grain coming through, way less sweetness, but still a nice herbal quality to it that really resonates. the flavor depth is incredible, but so is the balance. the wine is an accent, as is the oak, the belgian yeast has mellowed to a perfect level, and the grain sugar has subsided as well. its harmonious and beautiful. carbonated heavily and made to sing on the tongue. this is among the best beers i have had from grand teton. i hope it makes it to the bottle!
