Pours from 33.8oz waxed and swing topped bottle(room temp-2004 vintage) a clear amber with a medium sized head of foam that does shrink pretty quickly and there's some lacing.
The smell is very sweet with candy sugar, caramel malt, and some spiciness.
The taste starts off really sweet, lots of caramel malt that almost reaches the point of being *too* sweet but then, the sugary flavour takes a literal nose dive and I'm geting some earthy and bready notes along with some spiciness that I can't really identify so...I'm going to read from the attached info label. Cardamom, juniper berries, curacao orange peel.(this I'm kind of sensing in the taste)
Hmmm... for being only 6.5%abv, I'm getting more warming than I would have expected and, the body is pretty thin and with the flavours that are going on, that's not too good a thing, imho.
Bottom line: Maybe this should be consumed as early as possible because the one major thing I'm noticing about it is...it tastes like it's passed its best by date. I'll not buy another.(It *is* retired)

07/08/05- Purchased at Osco Drugs in Billings, MT.
Presentation- 1 Liter flip top bottle with wax around the top. Poured into a standard pint glass. No expiration date listed. Assuming it came out early in 2005.
Appearance- Brown and cloudy pour, 1/2 inch dirty colored head and fair lacing.
Smell- Definite sweet and spicy smell. Doesn't really smell like a brown ale. Not much bitter scented hops or roasted malt here. Great scent as is though.
Taste- Wow, this one has lots going on. Very sweet and carmely with a bunch of brown sugar and a bit of orange flavoring. Maybe even some cloves and corriander. I wish all brown ales tasted like this.
Mouthfeel- Medium at best carbonation and sticky and slick in the swallow.
Drinkability- Paid $9.99 for this and was worth every penny. Hopefully the store still has a few more that I can have a relative pick up. Huge spiced flavor and high drinkability. Quite an awesome brew.
