04/10/06- Purchased at a liquor store in Jackson Hole, WY.

Presentation- I liter swingtop and waxed bottle. Edition 2005. Poured into my Stone 22oz mug. Purchased in September of 2005.

Appearance- Pretty black in color, maybe a bit of auburn hue towards the top. Large foaming head at first. Started to overflow. Nice slight rim settles the rest of the beer. Lacing is spotty and a bit streaky.

Smell- Bittersweet chocoate fumes. Deep roasted malt and a whiff of confectioniers sugar. A touch of espresso as well.

Taste- Seems like a few different chocolates in here. Dark, milk and maybe an espresso flavored choclate. Bitter and sugary sweet at the same time. Good deep roasted malt taste and mild hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel- Sugary sweet coating of the mouth. Gets creamy as it warms. Lighter carbonation level.

Drinkability- At room temp this porter is one of the better ones I've had. It varies at temperature though. From one spectrum to the other. Overall a good nightime brew. Especially at 33oz! One to share with another BA.

Dark, rich chocolate brown to black with a small, tight, light cocoa brown head. Intimidatingly nice looking. Aroma of bitter dark chocolate, roasted malts, and light vegetal hop/homebrew funk. Taste starts with sweet milk chocolate. This contrasts with bitter dark chocolate. Complex, with warming alcohol notes and dark fruits swirling around the palate. Very nice. Finish is bitter sweet. Full-bodied, smooth, and thick feeling. Great tasting, but gets a little too sweet in the long run (i.e. the big swing top bottle is enough for now!).

Aroma is very malty, chocolatey and slightly roasty. Smells like powdered ice cream malt quite a bit. Color is deep black with slight ruby hues and a thumb thick, but quickly fading tan head. Fore is burnt and bitter coffee and chocolate. Hops are very piney and strongly concentrated. Chocolate malt and cocoa through the middle and into the finish. Powdered ice cream malt lingers in the finish. It's tasty, but not wholly satisfying...to me it lacks a intensity and range.
