The designation “Scotch Ale” has come to represent the strongest, most full -bodied of the Scottish ales. Ours was brewed with British black roasted barley and biscuit malt, gently hopped with British First Golds, fermented cool and aged cold for weeks for smoothness. It is copper-brown in color, with some sweet maltiness and plenty of body.

Vintage 2005, wax-dipped one quart bottle, with "cellar reserve" moniker. Very handsome.
Pours opaque mahogany, with dark amber hues faintly seen through the edges.
A moderate beige head developed to a half inch and receded fairly quick to partial coverage at best. A few errant dots of lacework as well.
Aromatics are mainly sweet malt and caramel. As the brew warms up, some decent complexities pull through...Hints of whiskey, chocolate, and smoke. The nose finishes with nougat and brown sugar.
Mouthfeel is medium at best, with carbonation a bit subdued, but well suited for the brew.
Pallet is well balanced for style and not overly sweet.
Rich malts, dark chocolate, with hints of vanilla, bourbon, and a suggestion of maple.
Finishes malty and lightly sweet, with lingering cocoa.
An extremely drinkable Scotch ale, and leaning twords a big bock.

Thanks to Bitterbill for this brew.
750ml Waxed/Swing Top
2005 Bottle
Pours a nice clean/clear dark brown almost blackish color, nice carbonation, nice litty creamy tan head, some nice little islands and sticky lacing afterwards. The nose is of roasted sweet malts, slight vanilla, and caramel. The taste is of roasted malts and mostly caramel. The finish is a little on the dry side. Medium body. Very drinkable, this is a very tasty Scotch Ale, not high in ABV, but it will do. So far for me I've liked all the Reserve brew's. Thanks buddy.

Poured from 1Qt 1.8oz waxed and swing top bottle(2005) a dark brown with a medium sized head of foam that dissipated quickly to leave just a fine broken layer.
The smell is really sweet caramel malt.
The taste follows through with roasted malt and the sweet caramel noted in the smell and it's done very nicely... the malt character is really big but doesn't translate to overly sweet and that has to be due to the presence, subtle as it may be, of the hops. The finish, again, has a nice malt bite to it.
Bottom line: This is a very tasty example of a Scotch Ale and I can easily recommend it.
