I got a can of this beer from my bestie from Charlotte, NC whom got it from a beer of the month club pack. It poured an opaque dark with ecru head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had coffee and cocoa notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with mocha flare. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a great beer.

12oz can from Boise Co-op. Dark brown pour with a thin, creamy beige head. Coffee, roast malts make up the aroma. Taste brings more coffee, not much chocolate, a touch of sweetness, and the bitterness all the way through.

With mocha in the name, I was expecting a good chocolate-coffee balance. The coffee really overpowers the chocolate, though. It’s not bad as a coffee porter, but I’m not getting any chocolate.

12oz can poured into my Darkness snifter.

A: Dark brown pour appears opaque but shows light through the body; huge khaki head fades to nothing.

S & T: Roasty, rich coffee with mild impressions of sweetness, mocha, chocolate, and nuttyness. Hint of smoke as well. Moderate bitterness and ghostly hint of char.

MF: Lighter body carries a somewhat acrid coffee bitterness, not detracting or unpleasant but definitely not the smoothest coffee porter.

O: Overall a good coffee porter, especially at 5% abv.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance- The beer is a deep brown color with a one finger head of foam. The head fades fast leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell - The aroma of the brew is strongest of a roasted malt and coffee smell. Mixed with those aromas are some smells of cocoa and a bit of brown sugar.
Taste - The taste begins with a sweet brown sugar and molasses sweetness mixed with a decent hit of roasted malt and coffee. The coffee gets stronger as the taste advances and is joined by some cocoa and a bit of toast. In the end a touch of caramel and toffee comes to the tongue leaving one with a sweet and moderately toasty taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel - The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a low carbonation level. Overall the feel is good for the style and abv.
Overall - A decent mocha porter with an easy drinking feel and taste.

a tasty and drinkable mocha porter, great morning and day beer for this time of year. its nice and dark and frothy headed, but its not a heavy brew despite the color, it drinks light for what it is, and the low alcohol makes it one to drink several of in a given sitting. the coffee and cocoa elements are both somewhat light in here, coffee in front of chocolate, but roasted barley in front of both of them. there is some bitterness on the roast, but a little bit of a caramel backing to it that keeps it from being too much, there is great balance to the grain, its never too bitter or too sweet, and its drier than a lot of these at the end. the coffee seems to almost have some chocolate character to it, thats how well integrated that element is, and its smooth and mellow, equally there from start to finish, and also going away quickly after the swallow. some semisweet chocolate chips in the middle of this, more mocha character comes out as it warms, but its always clean to finish. really nice restraint on this one, from the alcohol to the additives, which makes this such a drinkable porter. impressive overall quality again from these guys. great release for the colder months!

Dark brown body crowned with a thick, fluffy and sticky light tan head; rings of foam ladder down the glass. Alluring scent of fresh ground coffee and warm mocha; cocoa. Charred grain and bitter coffee ground flavors; milk chocolate. Heavy body; slick and silky with a buttery creaminess; a tad astringent; dry finish.

A potent yet enjoyable porter with a bold coffee presence.
