12 oz. bottle from 2002. Pours pitch black with a brown head. Strong burnt malt, musty bready smell. Medium bodied, it has an airy, fluffy mouthfeel. Very strong flavor of roasted malts and black coffee. Has an acidic strong black coffee bitterness to finish.

An unusual American stout in that it's not sweet at all.
Quite nice.

It pours an almost impenetrable brown with a smallish creamy tan head.
A hoppy and piney aroma fades. The smoky malt and coffee smell lingers a bit longer.
The malt body is a bit thin for a stout. Lightly sweet a fairly smoky with tastes of coffee and dark bitter chocolate.
This is (or was) fairly hoppy for the style. Piney and hop bud esters are also unique for the style.

First off... DAMN MOOSEHEAD ALL TO HELL. Their lawsuit against this beer, because you "could get Moosehead and Moose Juice mixed up", caused the brewers to stop making this beer.

Eclipse Black color, medium tan head. Aroma is coffeeish. A medium to lighter bodied stout. Roasted malt flavors are chocolate, with a touch of coffee and toffee. It appears to be dry hopped. A very drinkable stout. Creamy and toasty and smooth. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

Moose Juice Stout, what a name! This stout pours like most; dark brown, settles solid black in the glass. A strong pour produced a finger high dark cocoa brown, foamy, uniformly bubbled head with a bit of a rocky top that faded slowly to a thin ring and some stringy patches of lace. Looks damn good. How's it smell?

Wiff in....ahhh, nice sweet chocolate, sorta dark and chocolate milkish; cocoa, a bit of burntness of cookies, some coffee, and notes of hazelnuts. How's it taste?

Sip, gulp....Oh well, the smell doesn't transfer as strong as I wanted; not nearly enough. Its quite quick and thin of chocolate and cocoa, slight roastyness and a faint light nudge of coffee with some burntness character attributed to the middle and a coffee-like dryness mixed with a solid little hop bite in the finish that lingers a bit. But its over far to fast. Although...this stout likes to change character quickly as it warms, it goes through a bit of transformation from thin to more of a bolder quality and finishing a bit stronger as well. But not enough to enhance the experience any.

Feel is smooth and creamy and a bit thin of a lighter medium body that gains some momentum into the finish and a dot more as it warms.

This stuff goes down very easy, its very drinkable! To bad it doesn't pack a bit more flavorful punch. But, as-for-mentioned, it gets a bit more noticeable subtleness to its flavors and feel as it warms.
My suggestion is to let it breath a bit before diving in. A smidgen better at a warmer temp.

I had great expectations after pouring this beautiful black beer with its abundant brown head. For the most part I was not disappointed. The smell was a very pleasant blend of roasted malt, coffee, and just a hint of hops. The taste was much the same with the roasted flavors dominating with just a bit of coffee and bittersweet chocolate flavors intermingling for added complexity. The additional hint of hops was also a nice touch for balance. The only problem with this flavor is that I?m not sure where it came from, as this was a fairly thin and light bodied beer. On the other hand, the thin body combined with the very nice flavor made this a very drinkable stout. All in all I rather enjoyed this beer. I'm not sure it has enough to warm your belly on a cold winter night, but I drank this on a rainy spring afternoon, and it did pretty well to improve my mood.

Black in color, with a thin, dark tan head. The aroma is malt all the way -- roasty, coffee-like, and chocolatey. Nice and multi-dimensional. But I was simply blown away by the flavor. Grainy and roasty malt flavors dominate, developing a caramel sweetness mid-palate which is quickly offset by a generously hopped finish and a re-emergent roastiness in the aftertaste. Substantial in mouthfeel -- I can't believe this is only a 3.6% ABV beer. A fine job.

This is the first "Moose" I've had in years; in fact, perhaps the last was a Moosecock, er... Moosehead, from Canada, many moons ago. This one is quite a bit better!!
Moose Juice is about as dark in color as a bier can get. A black hole, with a fine, tan, thin head atop it. Lacing was minimal at best.
The nose is pleasing enough, though a bit mild, consisting of a roasty coffee aroma and a hint of coarse hops.
The Juice flowed fairly smoothly on the tongue, and was just about medium-bodied, though I prefer Stouts to be fuller, if at all possible.
Roasty coffee-ness pervades the flavor profile, too, with a touch of chocolate thrown in. A slight pinch of hoppiness arouses the senses near the long, dryish, bitter finish.
A pleasing stout, to say the least! My thnx to Gusler for providing this sample! Zum Wohl!!

Pitch black with a nice dark brown head and decent carbonation. Big-time strong roasty coffee-ish aroma !! Wake Up ! Rich robust coffee flavor - very roasty ! Medium bodied with a dry roasty finish.

Well worth seeking out - one of the best beers from the M.J. beer clubs.

Label states: "Jackson Hole's Original" (I think this was originally from Otto Brother's Brewing Co. - Jackson, WY)

Pours an opaque brownish-black with a brown head. Somewhat heavy looking, but average for a stout.
Pleasant aroma dominated by bittersweet chocolate.

Quite smooth with flavor dominated by roasted chocolate malts with a bittersweet chocolate flavor and some coffee notes. Nicely balanced by the hops. Not overly dry like an Irish-style dry stout. Flavor is not agressive, but is quite pleasing.

Good body and mouthfeel. Slight oily texture.
Very drinkable. Goes down quite easily.
Overall, not as bold as many stouts, but a quality stout with a good flavor.

Presentation: 12 oz amber bottle

Appearance: Nearly opaque, rich, dark color. A meaty toffee-colored head stakes its claim and lingers nicely. Lots of lacy trails on the glass.

Smell: Lots and lots of chocloate, coffee, and a little caramel thrown in for good measure.

Taste: I think I spoiled myself in trying Victory's and Samuel Smith's Imperial Stouts as my first samples of the stout category. The first thing I thought when trying this was: "It tastes like a 'watery' Storm King." Still, it was very good, with the creamy malty sweetness and the chocolate and coffee carrying over from the smell into the taste.

Mouthfeel: Very creamy mouthfeel. Really saturates the taste buds.

Drinkabilty: The meager alcohol content doesn't hinder the drinkability of this beer. It goes down very well, but I really prefer the Imperial Stouts.

It is sad that this beer will no longer be made. Another casualty of the Moose Head idiots thinking they have a lock on the word "moose", and sueing every beer that uses it. Sad.

About this beer though, I somewhat enjoyed it on draft in Yellowstone Park, then bought a couple of six packs and was really dissapointed. I just don't like the bitter cocoa powder flavor. I am a big stout fan, but this one just doesn't do anything for me.

Dark dark beer. Dark red hues when struck by light but otherwise black. Massive foamy brownish head that held. Roasted cookers chocolate and slightly smokey on the nose. It wasn't as thick as I expected but was acceptable. I tried a few bottles over two weeks and found them to be consistent, so try away.

If there is anything more beautiful in the “Beer World” than a “Stout”, sitting in a Samuel Smith Nonick glass, I am not sure what it would be. Deep dark and handsome on the pour, the head gigantean in size, spumous in texture with the lace a latticework of frothy bubbles that cover the glass. Nose is roasted grains, coffee, and bittersweet chocolate and quite sniffable. The beginning taste is that of sweet malt, the top skeletal in mouth feel, the finish hop spicy, minimally carbonated, and the aftertaste cocoa dry and somewhat bitter. At 3.2 percent alcohol by weight, not likely to cause much damage to the liver, but personally I like the taste and other characteristics of this beer, although it could be a bit thicker in body, but hey it’s a pretty tasty beer nonetheless.

Virtually jet black and opaque in hue. Trace clear deep ruby when held to bright light. Persistent brown head leaves lace. Smooth, dark caramel sweetness and rich, buttery malt in aroma along with slightly smokey, coffeeish roasted barley and bittersweet chocolate malt. Very enticing aromawise. The flavor is dominated by well calculated roasted barley bitterness, which lends a pleasant sharpness-- This works in conjunction with the moderate hop bitternss to contrast both caramel malt derived and residual sweetness. Deeply smokey, roasted grain notes slowly emerge as the beer breathes and add additional richness. Although not full in body, the mouthfeel is sufficiently smooth for excellent quaffability. Finishes bittersweet w/ dry, roasted barley bitterness and residual sugar combination. Moose Juice is a flavorful and enjoyable stout. Very heavy on roasted malt character. It's akin to an Imperial Stout "light". Superbly drinkable.

This brew pours like thick black syrup. Just the pour itself made my mouth water. The darkness give way to a thick brown head with a smoke roasted chocolate aroma. The heavier body really punches the heavy smoked roasted chocolate flavor with just a hint of unsweetened chocolate bitterness. Very tasty and satisfying.
