a somewhat mild take on the style here, a fine fall time drinker, but a very mellow beer, less sweet than many, less flavorful frankly too, although still decidedly malt driven of course, it just seems like its lacking a little something, not as bold and distinctive as i am used to from grand teton, but well made and seasonally appropriate for sure. a shade darker than some of these, a little more brown than red in my glass, with a tan head a half inch high with fine retention. it doesnt smell like a whole lot other than a little long boiled malt sugar, not much going on here, nothing from the yeast at all, which i have come to look for in the style, and without the low end i expected from the deeper color. the flavor has a maple hint, perhaps trace smoke and wet earthiness, but its really relaxed overall, more of a soft brown sugar thing, drier by the finish but with a little malty linger, good, but unexciting overall. enough carbonation, fuller medium body, decently well refined, nothing to really complain about, but i would not put this up there with their best beers, not at all. i had a little higher hopes for this, just seems sort of underdone in a way thats hard to finger...

Crowler from Growler Guys. Dark brown with ruby highlights, wispy head. Woody aroma, earthy, peat. Taste offers some sweetness, brown sugar notes, still a healthy dose of the peated malts, more woody flavors. Dries out towards the finish.
