solid new double ipa from these guys, hazy and reddish in the glass, a little heavy looking, not the most attractive brew, but the hop character is delicious and its more refined than it looks. very cloudy, fizzy amber colored brew without much of a lasting head. smells like stone fruit, dried apricot specifically, and fresh pine, a cool mix of hops it seems, both modern and classic at the same time to me. the flavor is right there too, a little sweet up front with the fuller malt body and lightly caramelized vibe, which to my palate accentuates the fruitiness of the hops, peach and apricot. then in the second half it gets a little bitter, more herbal and botanical, even lightly medicinal, and the ferment is very clean. the alcohol is pretty well hidden here, but the body is full enough that this feels like an imperial to me, good carbonation, off dry at the end. perhaps not the most memorable or dramatic of the hoppy beers these guys have made over the years, but solid overall, great with spicy food, and nice for the cold weather months. always fun drinking new beers from these guys.
