Gnarvidad, the Mexican Mocha stout from the Boise Beer Bus Tour to Grand Teton late this summer, and I beer I actually helped brew. Its an American Stout brewed with chocolate, chilies and cinnamon.
On tap @ R&R Public House, Meridian ID, served in an Ayinger nonic.
A: Pours very dark black, I get no light through the edges of this glass. Decent carbonation visible but the tan head still dissipates at about a medium rate (maybe a product of the chilies?).
S: Spot on to a Mexican Mocha...there is a big chocolate malt presence up front followed immediately by a big kick of cinnamon and spices...touches of coffee, roasted malt and bitterness behind that.
T: Follows the nose with cinnamon flavors and chocolate creaminess and lactic characters, peppery spices..there is a good dready malt presence underneath the spices. Just hints again of herbal hop and coffee bitterness.
MF: Medium mouthfeel. The chilies leave a slight coat of peppery oil on your mouth but its not distracting or overpowering.
O: Good Mexican Mocha stout. The cinnamon is upfront in flavor and smell more than spiciness and I don't think the peppers are overwhelming. A very nice beer that pairs well with spicy food or stands alone as a dessert beer.
