Schooner on keg from Beer Heroes, Chester (£6.20):
Jet black, thin foamy & off-white lacing on top. Roasted malts & some sweeter notes, vanilla & maybe a little coconut. Taste is very similar, maybe a little more roasted malts but pretty balanced. Medium to full bodied, lightly carbonated but definitely quite boozy.

Purchased at Carwyn Cellars in Melbourne in June 2024 and drunk a month later.
L: The beer is dark black in the glass with ruby and brown highlights. There's a thin smattering of coffee-coloured head. Lots of very small bubbles can be seen streaming in orderly columns up the edge of the glass.
S: Brown sugar, glacé cherry, cough drops, and blackcurrant leap out of the glass. There's a subtle hoppy spiciness in there too. There's quite a bit going on, and it's hard to parse the individual aromas. Overall, it's a sweet, slightly artificial aroma.
T: The glacé cherry and blackcurrant are again dominant in the taste profile. As expected, there's a long, sweet, lingering finish with that artificial cough drop end and a touch of coffee. The can notes marzipan in the flavour profile, and I suspect that's what I'm interpreting as the cough drop note. A slight warmth on the swallow lets you know you're drinking nearly 7% ABV.
M: Mouthfeel is a little thin despite the addition of lactose, and carbonation is quite minimal. There's a stickiness on the lips and a coating in the mouth after a few mouthfuls.
O: This beer is ok, but that cough drop/marzipan note I picked up niggled at me throughout the can. I decided in the end that I wasn't a fan of it, and the rest of the beer didn't impress me enough to overcome that one misgiving. I suspect someone who likes almonds and marzipan will enjoy this beer.
Cheers!

Pours a pitch black coloration with a medium, fluffy, stable head. Smells of roasted, slighty caramelly malt and a distinct pistachio nuttiness, as well as lighter notes of cocolate and honey. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate, pistachio and lighter notes of honey, with just a hint of lactose, licorice and herbal hops as well. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some chocolate, pistachio and lighter honey lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
Quite a nice Stout that strikes a great balance of slightly sweet and roasted/bitter notes, with the additives coming through nicely without feeling too overpowering or taking away from the malts and lighter hops here. Much better than a similar pistachio/honey Milk Stout I had by a different brewery not too long ago, which was just way too sweet.
