Meyer Lemon Berliner-Style Weiss

Brewed in collaboration with our friend Chef Seth Elgar from NOCO in Bloomington, IN. A Berliner Weiss with Meyer lemons added (both zest and juice) in case that wouldn't have registered as tart enough. High in acidity and full bodied, this beer pairs well with seafood and spicy dishes.

Poured from a can. Hazy and yellow with a good sized head. Smells of lemon and a sweetness. Flavor is lemon with a slight sweetness that is then very tart. Very solid beer

A Berlinner Weisse is a perfect beer for a hot, humid summer day. This one hits the spot. From an aluminum can, it is a light orange-yellow color...hazy. The aroma hints at tartness, with a fresh lemon and light spice note. The taste is wonderful...somewhat sour, thirst quenching, and nice lemon notes. I get lemon flesh, peel, and leaf. Wow. Very nicely done.

A: The beer is hazy light yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger and a half high bright white head that gradually died down, consistently leaving a short head covering the surface.
S: Moderate aromas of Meyer lemon are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has lots of flavors of lemons with a strong dose of acidity.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very tart on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite acidic and seems like it would help to cut through certain types of rich food dishes.

Poured from an undated 12 oz can into the test glass,
A - Initial pour was beautifully clear, a hint of bright yellow, then a swish of the can and out came the cloudy fines of the yeast and lemons. Cap is supported by vigorous carbonation, with lacing delicate and quite attractive.
S - Lemons, lots of lemons, sooo many lemons, Add to that a nice salty musty quality, some peach and melon near the rime.
T - Follows the nose well enough, add a very nice grain element, wheat, there is also a thread of yeast that acts in support.
M - Mouth puckering, all the saliva has left the room, side walls are rolling up, then in a surprise twist, an evening sweetness touches down to balance things nicely
O - A very nice summer offering here, the initial punch softens with a bit of time. The total package is one that screams outdoors in the warm months. 3.9% and packed with flavor Worth seeking out

On tap. Poured a slightly hazy, straw yellow color with a small, white head of foam. It smelled of lemon, wheat and yeastiness. Very tart and sour from the Meyer lemons with a touch of sweetness at the back.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 3/15/2019. Pours very hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big sour/tart/tangy meyer lemons, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light peppercorn/lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of meyer lemon juice/peels, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big sour/tart/tangy meyer lemons, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light peppercorn/lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tart/sourness, fruit tang; light pine/herbal/grassy bitterness, and yeast spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of sour/tart/tangy meyer lemons, lime, orange, citrus peel/zest, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white grape/wine, hay, straw, grass, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light peppercorn/lacto/musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of meyer lemon juice/peels, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; with a great malt/tart/sourness and tangy fruit balance; with minimal puckering flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering tart/sourness, tangy fruit, and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/grainy/acidic/tangy, fairly crisp, and lightly sticky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 3.9%. Overall this is an awesome fruited Berliner weisse. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of meyer lemon juice/peels, fruity/funky/acidic yeast, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth and fairly crisp/refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/tannic/drying finish; not overly lactic. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Perfectly balanced between vibrant lemon juice/peels, Brett/Lacto complexity, and pale/wheat malts against acidity. Minimal residual sweetness with crisp dryness. A really enjoyable offering, and outstanding spot on style example as expected.

Someone replaced my beer with boozy lemonade! But really this is a delicious light berliner. Huge meyer lemon, some lingering wheat, and cumulative mouth-puckering sour. Little watery in feel, but fits light summer beer. Watery nature more present in nose. Would have again in mood, but that won't be often given light nature

16oz can, served in a willi becher. Smell is cloudy lemon yellow body, half finger white head, good retention, no lacing. Smell is heavy on lemon, a bit of herbs, light grainy wheat, a bit more lemon and moderate acidity. Flavour follows, tons and tons of lemons. Sort of drinking an alcoholic lemonade except it's clearly a beer behind it. Mouthfeel is lighter bodied, refreshing, good carbonation, easy to drink, cleansing and easy on the palate.

Pours a very clouded pale golden-yellow, with a half-finger of head that quickly fizzes away to nothingness. Nontraditional cloudiness for a berliner, but befitting that it's been imbued with fruit. Delicious and delightfully tart, without going too far, thanks to the greater sweetness of Meyer lemons. This would make a marvelous accompaniment to meals.
