Our good friend Pete the Planner suggested a beer name to us a while back and challenged us to come up with a beer to fit it. From that "Frugal Ginger" was born. This farmhouse ale was aged for 10 months in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels we got from our good friends Crown Liquors and then we added a bunch of fresh ginger to each barrel. Notes of vanilla and oak from the barrels combine with the pepper and biscuit notes from the beer layered with a spicy ginger kick. This beer is decadent and anything but frugal in flavor!

A challenging beer to rate, given its style-bending additives and the inevitable comparison to a more traditional ginger ale or ginger beer. This does drink more as a farmhouse ale first, resonant with other Central State offerings, and a ginger beer second. There is a fair amount of ginger flavor, but without the heat and tang of a ginger beer. Interesting, and well-executed, but not my favorite.
