Well now, this is interesting. A stout made with farmhouse yeast, aged in barrels from New Day Meadery's Breakfast Magpie, a mead with blackberry and coffee. The Magpie is a really nice, flavorful mead, and that translates into the beer, which takes on quite a bit of flavor from the barrel treatment. The base beer is discreet, a stout with bright florals and biscuity notes. The coffee and mead are the most prominent flavors, which makes for an interesting combination, as the honeyed sweetness of the mead counterpoints the bitter earthiness of the coffee. The blackberry is clear but muted, much like it is in the Magpie--sweet and juicy, like a mature berry, but not tart. Moderately full body for 8.5% abv.

A surpassing amount of breakfast magpie made it into the beer. Loaded with raspberry.
