Look: It pours gold with a slight off white head. The head is large and head retention is excellent.

Smell: The aromas start off with oak. After, it has a moderately high amount of spices with lemon. There are some earthly elements in the nose with low notes of white wine.

Taste: It is rather sour with lemon peel and oak. There are some earthen elements and dough. It has a medium body with plenty of carbonation. It also has some white wine elements. Taste:

Overall: It has a very dry finish. Overall, there are some good flavor elements, but the sourness is a bit high. It is also listed as a Farmhouse Ale with white oak on the can.

i am beyond stoked to have found this can for sale in colorado, even if its a leftover from shelton fest or something, which a lot of the heady beer in the market here is right now, i still appreciate it greatly. i have loved just about everything i have ever had from these guys, so this pickup was a no brainer for me. a hoppy bretty oak aged brew, subtle in the right ways, yet very distinctive overall, my lady and i both really enjoyed this can last night. its neat that they did it on oak staves, i think it lets it take on wood character a little faster than a barrel usually does, which in this instance allows the hops to stay fresh in the flavor, an uncommon boldness and newness of both those elements is really what defines this one for me. clear and light copper colored when we first pour it, nice rising white head, but a lot of sediment towards the bottom of the can, the last inch or so is milky and gross. i love the brett here, a brux type complexion to it, relatively newish and mellow in the mix, but familiar from their other beers, and pleasantly earthy here with the wood on this, matches perfectly. i like the bitterness of the hops here, but they have some oily citrus peel and pine character too, giving this a whole lot of flavor for something so drinkable. the oak has a light vanilla note, and works into the flavor mix well, not dominant and not overly mature, but i like what it contributes. high level carbonation keeps it moving, and it warms up well, even though the natural tendency here is to drink it pretty quickly. fun beer, i hope to see more from central state come around, they really have a good thing going!

16 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours lightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, red apple, white grape, mango, melon, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, clove, pine, oak, wheat. cracker, biscuit dough, herbal, floral, grass, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/earthy hops, moderate oak, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, red apple, white grape, mango, melon, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, clove, pine, oak, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness. Moderate peppery yeast spiciness; and pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, red apple, white grape, mango, melon, citrus peel/rind, peppercorn, clove, pine, oak, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, herbal, floral, grass, light musty funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/earthy hops, moderate oak, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and minimal lingering hop astringency after the finish. Moderate increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, bready, grainy, sticky, resinous, rindy, and lightly tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 5%. Overall this is an awesome hoppy saison! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/spicy yeast, citrus/tropical/earthy hops, and moderate pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and pretty refreshing to drink; despite the increasingly bitter/spicy/resinous/dryng finish, not too overly aggressive. Very flavorful and not watery for the ABV. Great Citra/Hallertau Blanc profile. Very vibrant/dank/earthy hops, and balanced Brett/Saison yeast complexity; with a solid wheat/oat/malt backbone and French oak presence. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected.
