Often reserved for the finish on holiday platters the pomegranate fruit find its way into the summertime rotation at Central State Brewing in form of a sour ale that cast an aura of red berries all over a tart and refreshing session.
Bright and rouge to the eye, a fine haze floats under a racy, zesty froth. As Pomegranate projects onto the nose, a cast of red berries mingle with vinous fruit, orchard fruit and a peppery twinge in balance. Faint sweetness comes way of fruit juices, taffy and hard candy in a calm maltiness that just provides roundness to the fruit.
Pomegranate pulls from the underling fruitiness of raspberry, cranberry, red currant and red grape while the sour ale sheds a propensity for cider, white wine, lime and lemon in a lactic sour frame. A hint of burlap brings a sense of earth to the late palate as a vanilla-like soothing taste is lightly creamy throughout.
Medium bodied for sour ale, the tartness and tannic spice of the fruit and seeds help to dry the ale in a juicy but tangy finish, along with a brief after palate of red berries and weathered balsa once more.
