Poured from the growler, about a little less than 48 hours after tapping into a tulip glass.
Some minor agitation, and a solid three finger creamy head is created, which easily settles to a nice finger. Bit of a yellow tinge to the color, but a nice soft bowl and puck. Darker body, hints of amber to nearly chestnut brown, but maintains dark orange and nearly opaque presence.
Bready malts, with a nice small sucrose tone on the aroma. Mild sensing honey character, and a pretty quiet nose on the yeast front. Slight faint spicy phenols which add a nice character to the sweetness to break things up a bit. Gets into spice loaf and bread territory which is quite nice.
Palate falters a bit. Wet and washing malt depth, with watery honey coating feel on first sip. Manages a bit of fruit, but bitter orange pith and citrus character kicks in a bit A very odd almost sour twinging white grape flavor with a tannic bitterness really hits on the aftertaste. Pith like bitterness also seems to bring out some unexpected hop astringency as well.
A bit unfortunate, while drinkable, this seemed to be starting off very solidly but needs a bit of tweaking. Lacks a lot of things a solid tripel should have.
