Having on tap at Dewey Beer Co.
Pours a vinous grape colored liquid. A minimal head quickly dissipates. Nice look, but I’m kind of missing that great fluffy head retention typical of Belgian Quads.
Grape like and vinous aroma; raisins, prune as well as plum. As it warms, a toasty malt and slight dark chocolate aroma develops.
For the high ABV, this is very drinkable. More medium bodied than full, with a soft carbonation. Sweet malt body accompanied by dark fruit. Flavors of grape, tart plum, raisins, dates and prunes. Very light peppery spice, perhaps not enough. What I’m also missing is that great bready malt taste characteristic of the great Quads.
Not a bad Quad, just a tad too fruity and unbalanced.
