Brought home a Crowley from the always wonderful Dewey Beer Co.
Pours a cloudy and slightly turbid golden straw with a subtle orange hue. A big fluffy, creamy and lathery head adorns the surface. Although the head retention is not amazing, splashes of sudsy lacing sprinkle the glass throughout.
There is a big juicy bouquet of citrus, tropical and earthy fruit aromas. There is the zest of orange and grapefruit, while the subtle tones of mango, pineapple and banana add sweetness. The aroma of berries is punctuated by the smell of grass.
In the mouth it is apparent that this is a plump and juicy ipa dominated by the fruity hops profile. The fruity flavors correspond with the aroma. There is also a lightness and sweetness to the malt, perhaps owing to the use of pilsner malt. The wheat adds smoothness. Medium bodied and unbelievably quaffable due both to the juicy flavors and the dry finish. In addition, the presence of light pine and grassy hops adds a mild bitterness that provides great balance.
I’ve been following Dewey Beer Co since they first opened and am becoming more impressed by their output. Although they are good at producing a variety of styles, they have especially impressed me with their IPA batch series!
