Undated (WTF) can into pint glass. Pours a murky dark gold with a persistent off-white head. Great lacing. Initial impression is sweet orange, grapefruit, a hint of lemon, and a restrained amount of caramel malt. Mouthfeel is medium and soft. Finish has a bit of a spicy bite o it, but nicely offset by the aforementioned sweetness. Overall, a pretty fine and very drinkable DIPA.

From the can, it pours a hazy brassy golden color with an orange hue. A moderate head displays decent retention.

The aromas exude the sweetness of fruity and floral hops and doughy malts. A big fragrant nose evokes notes of peach, mango, pineapple, passion fruit, grapefruit and tangerines.

The taste continues the trend of the aroma by offering a sweet and complex fruit cocktail of tropical, stone and citrus fruit flavors with a kick of alcohol spice. The mouthfeel is smooth, soft and creamy, perhaps to a fault. Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation. The sweet, doughy and biscuity mouthfeel supports the hops forward flavors that align with the aroma and also include notes of bubblegum, berries, and candied oranges. The hops presence is seemingly intended for flavor as there is no bitterness and little herbal presence. Only later do some pithy and zesty notes of grapefruit and lemon, along with a minimal touch of resin, provide a semblance of balance. Likewise, the finish, long and juicy throughout, belatedly develops some dryness and a slight lingering bitterness.

Overall, this one felt a bit too sweet and smooth for its own good. The flavors are certainly complex and well crafted, however, I’ve had IPAs from Dewey Beer Co that have better balance than this.
