A collaboration between one of my favorite breweries, Dewey Beer Co, and a hitherto unknown to me brewery called Burnish Beer. More than happy to support their business as 100% of their proceeds will go towards a relief fund to help Delaware hospitality workers during this COVID 19 pandemic.
From the can, it pours a hazy, brassy golden orange color. A large foam head displays good retention, as a thick and lathery layer of film persists throughout, along with swirly lacing.
I can smell the juicy and pungent aroma as soon as I crack that can open. It opens with citrusy notes of grapefruit, lime, lemon, orange and tangerine. This is contrasted by herbal, grassy green and dank aromatics. Other aromas include biscuity and bready malts, lots of tropical fruit including mango and pineapple, and a hint of stone fruit.
Juicy taste all around, as it highlights generous helpings of hops amidst a doughy and biscuity malt backbone. Medium bodied with a smoothly crisp mouthfeel characterized by the easy going and zesty prickle of hops. The carbonation is moderate and right on par. Flavors open with notes of grapefruit rind, zesty lime, and orange pulp. Tropical notes of mango and pineapple, as well as stone fruit notes of peach and nectarine, interplay nicely with the citrusy flavors. A nice hops spice that is approachable but assertive, and offers flavors that are peppery, piney, grassy, and a bitterness that is ultra smooth and clean. The finish is dry with a long citrusy zest and lingering pine resin.
This is one of my favorite Dewey Beer Co (with an assist from Burnish) IPAs in recent memory. It is deliciously juicy with a nice zesty and herbal hops spice; very easy to crush at 6.5% ABV.
