pastry stout in the truest sense, like trying to be a dessert, and its good, less sweet than it sounds, vanilla, almond, and coconut, no barrel, and if there is lactose in this, its more texture than sweetness, doesnt make this too intense to drink, and honestly its quite impressive because for me, almond is a tough ingredient to get to show through a beer like this, especially when more obvious flavors like vanilla are in the mix, but here the almond is front and center, which is why i like this so much. pretty good base stout, strong with body, roasty bit not overly bitter, big but not absurd, and with nothing standing out above anything else so a fine canvas for extra ingredients, and i think bake club is a rad series name to explore things like almond bars. true almond is there in aroma and flavor, not amaretto or some extract, it seems like real nuts, which is awesome, but its still beer first, prominent as the extras are. the vanilla is nothing special, like it doesnt pop as some insane heady fresh scaped pods of some elite origin, but its natural enough, restrained well, and enhances both the almond and the coconut. the coconut has a tasted warmth but but even with all the grain in this doesnt move into the german chocolate cake realm, it stays beery, stout forward, roasty, and the coconut is a sexy little side hit, just right. smooth and long, its on the palate awhile but not because its syrup. on the whole this was great, and im curious about other bake club releases now, assuming its a series of real ingredient stouts like this. yum.
