Consumed at the brewery on November 1st, 2015.
Extremely dark brown beer with deep mahogany highlights. Super-creamy tan head lasts all the way to the bottom of the glass providing excellent sheeting.
Aroma is 100% coffee.
Flavor is 99% coffee with only the tiniest traces of the base beer peeking through in the form of oatmeal and slightly sour dark malt.
Mouthfeel is creamy if swished but otherwise thin and watery: more a porter than a stout.
Falls into the common trap of coffee adjunct beers - they forget how to beer and instead taste like old, cold coffee.

On tap at the Surf 'N' Suds Beer Festival held at Carpenteria State Beach in Carpenteria, CA.
Pours an opaque black with a foamy super dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, coffee bean, brewed coffee, and toasted oat aromas. Taste is much the same with coffee bean, brewed coffee, cocoa powder, and char flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with fantastic coffee characteristics that work super well with the base beer.
Serving type: on tap.
