Growler pour at the Surf 'N' Suds Beer Festival held at Carpenteria State Beach in Carpenteria, CA.
Pours an almost opaque super dark crimson-brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Thick swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of roasted malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and black pepper aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, citrus zest, and black pepper flavors on the finish. There is a medium amount of roast and hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice mix of cocoa and citrus along with some interesting black pepper qualities.
Serving type: growler.
