Similar to others of its genre from Belgium. Worth trying.

Poured jet black with a rich tan head and very sticky lacing. Smelled of dried fruit, wine, malt, burnt toast. The taste was very good, loads of dried fruit flavors, nice wine notes on the backside. Getting some mild coffee and chocolate, little oak flavor, with a medium finish. This has minimal bite and mild alcohol burn, overall a very nice beer.

Had a pint at the brewpub earlier today for $6.50. ABV is weighing in at 7.7% for this version.
Beer was served amber brown with a decent white head that dissipated quickly.
Nose is of dark fruits.
Taste is dark fruits and sweet without being cloyingly so.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied and pretty smooth.
Overall this is not a bad beer and a decent representation of the style. Give it a shot if you find yourself in Pinetop!

Poured a gorgeous reddish brown translucent body that was semi-clear and ruby red when held to light. Overall impression of appearance is of an excellent strong dark. Scents of fruity yet dry red wine, sweet, bready and lightly caramel-like rich malt, dark fruit, especially dried cherry and prune with notes of raisin, very light chocolate notes and a hint of spicy Belgian yeast. Overall impression of aroma is of a vinous, ester-heavy yet still richly malty Belgian strong dark, most comparable to Achel Extra Brun. Very well executed. Flavor begins with strong flavors of dried cherry, hints of prune and dried strawberry, tart, not cloying fruitiness, dry red wine and mingled with a strong bready, rich and caramel-like malt. Middle continues this. Finish gives further prune, dried cherry, changes the red wine from dry to sweet and finishes with raisin mingling with plum, rich caramel and toasty malt and white pepper phenols. Aftertaste is dried cherry. Overall impression of flavor is of a nice strong dark, true to overall style with an array of pleasant esters and malt character on display. Mouthfeel is medium-full bodied with medium-low carbonation and light stickiness. Overall impression of mouthfeel is of a nice strong dark. Overall this is a very good American take on a Belgian Strong Dark. It has the rich aromas and flavors of the style, with an excellent mouthfeel and pleasing overall character. Very nice.
