Poured black into the glass with decent head on top. Not "thick black", but dark and somewhat thin looking for a beer of it's style. It's aroma and flavor were quite similar: Roasted dark and chocolate malts, and not a lot else.
This beer was true to it's style, yet also very basic and wimpy. Want to make this better? Do the same thing you're doing, but load it with a bigger hop profile, add maybe coffee or chocolate (or anything else that comes to mind), and turn up the abv a little bit.
