12 ounce can - Charlie's Beer & Wine in Marietta, Georgia.
Can is simply dated "11/13/18".
Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with some glints of amber-gold at the edges. Appears to be a bit cloudy. Thin, thinning, off-white head.
Smell: Falls somewhere between toasted and roasted with some moderate caramel and slight fruitiness with an undertone of earthiness and spice.
Taste: Again, roasty/toasty with a pop of tangy fruitiness followed by a fair amount of sweet caramel glaze. Rather low hop character and supporting bitterness. Earthy spiciness. Minor astringency seems to be coming from the minor darker malt additions. Splash of cherry cola arriving late in the flavor, holding through the sweetish, less-than-crisp finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Munich dunkel, a deep, enjoyable lager I do enjoy and I'm glad to see more breweries taking a stab at the style. However, Ex-Pat is definitely not the best rendition available, as it's rough around its edges and unrefined, though I suppose one could do worse.
