On tap at Karl Strauss Road Right Next to 5 Freeway La Jolla/Pacific Beach. Someone at the bar was talking about this and I took notice. This person said this beer was brewed with Centennial and dry hopped with Citra and Mosaic. I don't know if that's true, but it smells like he's right. Brewed at the Costa Mesa location and marked "limited release".
Gold tinged amber with a cap of foam. Looks pretty alright for a beer.
Ridiculously expressive, with passionfruit, guava, papaya, gooseberry, pineapple, and mango. This possibly the most tropical aroma I've ever beheld. Pretty unbelievable. There's a bit of graininess in the background. No evident alcohol.
Tangerine and gooseberry blend with ultra juicy orange notes. It's an absolute blast of fruity hop flavor. The beer is not sweet but it's not dry either. Hop character is dominant and the malt does not distract, but it does support and is evident with pleasant sweetness and the suggestion of caramel. The finish shows a grainy quality with the hops fading out a little soon. No alcohol is noticeable. Moderately bitter throughout with no harsh notes. The beer is medium in body with medium carbonation and a sticky mouthfeel.
Man, good beer, Karl Strauss. This reminds me a hell of a lot of Heady Topper, except it's significantly more aromatic, not yeasty and muddy, cleaner, not as sweet, and doesn't look like vomit.
