Poured clear brown with a minimal tan head/ring of bubbles. No lacing to speak of. Caramel and toffee aroma, along with a dark bread scent. Watery and loose mouthfeel, very uncharacteristic for a Scotch. Similar weakness in the flavor. More of the caramel and toffee, bread dough, and now a little chocolate malt. Minimal roastiness and zero smokiness. To quote the sluts on the latest 'Rock of Love' installment: "lame."

Growler purchased for nine dollars yesterday at the Costa Mesa location, drank tonight with my family, it is about sixteen hours old by now, poured into an oversized wine glass
A-Mahogany with more red than brown, small 1/2 inch bubbly off white head, disappeared quickly, not much retention, no lacing
S-Lots of bread, brown sugar, berries, toffee, light caramel, tons of malt, and light honey, very weak aroma
T-All I taste at first is bread, not very toasty, expected a lot sweeter and sugary flavor, then comes some wheat that adds even more chewiness, does not change much after that, remains flat and not very flavorful
M-Chewy, sticky, and sweet mouthfeel, taste lingers way too long, body was pretty thin, too much carbonation even out of a growler
D-ABV is low for its style but it is still pretty heavy on the stomach, not very smooth, most sessionable scotch ale out there probably but just not good enough to drink lots of
One of the weaker tasting scotch ales I have ever had, this was one of their seasonal offerings so we got a jug on that alone, we learned our lesson to taste it next time, would not drink again, recommendation goes either way

On cask at the Sorrento Mesa Karl Strauss location (first-Thursday cask night).
Pours a dark reddish-brown color, but still clear. Minimal head that doesn't last long. Barely noticeable malty aroma. Taste is malty too, almost like a more concentrated version of their Red Trolley ale... but with some more tannins. ABV around 6-7%, just fine in that regard. Not the smoothest beer, and a bit thin.
This was by far the COLDEST cask beer I've ever been served, either in the US or the UK. And (unfortunately) this is less drinkable as it warms up -- you realize that there is very little flavor there (and what is there is not interesting). Not bad, mind you, but hardly a beer to get again.
