With a nicely dark mahogany color, it boasts flavors of dark chocolate, sabra liquor and warm beef spices. It is nicely balanced and malt forward with a slightly sweet profile and a subtly rich, bready aftertaste. Fits perfectly with a pleasant raisin and dark yeast aroma and a fantastic mouthfeel overall. This beer gets pleasantly mellow with time.
This tastes like the outstanding lager beers that this brewery used to make before they discontinued it for some weird reason. Now that Karl Strauss is bringing a taste of those beers back, it is imperative that they keep this and any other beers that may come back in the small batch category (e.g. MINDEN MAIBOCK!!!!). Let’s pray that they keep this gem of a beer brewing in this establishment. One of the best Doppelbocks outside of Germany!
